Calvarium
A sailor stranded at sea discovers an island.
An island invites a lost soul into its heart.
Calvarium is a puzzle game that gets your heart pumping. The goal was to design gameplay that invites robust physical interaction, while giving rich feedback to the senses.
Players encounter a series of chambers as they descend into the heart of an ancient city. Each chamber excites a different sense; each sense unlocks a new secret.
Kass, a competitive sailor, is lost at sea. As she learns about the island’s history, she reflects on her relationship with her partner, Dawn.
Calvarium is about finding the strength to reach out and make a connection, even when the signal is weak.

Collaborated with creative team to establish game’s themes and design pillars.
Led four-person story team to determine narrative arc and scene breakdown.

Co-wrote script and coordinated with contract writer to establish tone and structure.
We told the story of the relationship between the two main characters, Kass and Dawn, via a series of “memory palaces.”
These narrative vignettes chronicle the couple’s relationship. We wanted to give the player brief glimpses into the women’s private lives, let them witness the shared jokes, misunderstandings, and moments of intimacy that aren’t always included in games, especially in the case of queer couples.
